Who we are

Born from a decade of biofuel innovation

Silva Biofuel AS was formed late 2025 when a team of experienced engineers and technologists — previously at Silva Green Fuel — continued the pioneering HTL work at Tofte, Hurum. We own and operate a demonstration plant where we convert forestry residues into advanced bio-crude oil.

Our technology is feedstock-flexible, energy-efficient, and produces a bio-crude oil that can be refined using standard refinery equipment — making it a direct drop-in pathway for hard-to-abate sectors.

We are now entering a new phase: inviting investors and industrial partners to join us in scaling HTL to commercial reality.

Feedstock Preparation
Forest residues are milled and mixed into a pumpable slurry using recirculated liquids.

Hydrothermal Liquefaction
High temperature & pressure near-critical water conditions convert biomass into bio-crude oil.

Demineralisation
A desalting process removes impurities, producing purified advanced bio-crude oil.

Refining & Use
Bio-crude is refined using standard equipment for road, aviation, and marine applications.

Aviation
HTL bio-crude can be upgraded to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), addressing one of the most challenging sectors for emissions reduction.
Marine
Our bio-crude qualifies against marine fuel specifications — enabling shipping companies to meet tightening IMO carbon requirements.
Norwegian Forests
Using domestic forestry residues as feedstock creates a circular, local value chain — with biogenic CO₂ capture as an additional benefit.
